About
Cofa

COFA is a non-profit, member-owned association dedicated to the highest quality organic standards, ongoing research and grassroots education.

The Certified Organic Farmer’s Association was founded to unite organic farmers and grant COFA status to select farms, ingredients and products that meet our organic agricultural standards. Our farmer-led certification ensures that each member meets the highest evaluative criteria. Each application to COFA is subjected to a thorough, panel review and extensive onsite evaluation. Each potential member’s farm is monitored intermittently over the course of one year to ensure all standards are upheld and maintained to COFA expectations.

Potential members will be expected to disclose any additional certifications to ensure full transparency. We also work together with the local community to strengthen cooperation between organic producers and consumers.

COFA Members are committed to organic agriculture at the highest level of quality. Members are dedicated to their local community and have a lifelong passion for organic farming. Members are expected to be upstanding citizens, uphold an excellent professional and personal reputation and must set the example of a true commitment to the organic cause.

About
Organic
Farming

Organic farming is today’s term for “traditional agriculture.” Practiced by humans around the world for thousands of years, organic farming uses centuries-old concepts such as crop rotation, companion planting and composting to grow healthy and nutritious fruits, vegetables. Organic farming is a very pure form of agriculture which utilizes sustainable and natural techniques to enhance the fertility of the farm.

In today’s world, advanced knowledge of natural biological processes is combined with traditional farming practices. Some unique features of organic farming include polyculture (planting multiple crops in the same location), carbon-based fertilizers and natural pest control. Organic farming produces highly nutritious, vitamin-rich crops in an efficient, natural way.

"Organic agriculture is a production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people. It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity, and cycles adapted to local conditions, rather than the use of inputs with adverse effects. Organic agriculture combines tradition, innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and promote fair relationships and a good quality of life for all involved..."
